The first step of dispersion and dissolution of a powder is wetting; therefore, understdanding the wettability behavior of powders is important in many applications such as inks, paints, food and pharmaceutical industry. The method to characterize powder wettability depends on the powder properties and application purposes. Sessile drop, Wilhelmy plate and liquid penetration (both column and thin film wicking) are common methods for determining the wettability of powders.
Solid surface free energy is one of the basic physical properties like density, melting point, refractive index, dielectric constant, modulus, etc. Measuring the solid surface free energy has applications in paints, coatings, and adhesives, semiconductors, printing, aerospace, mining, pharmaceutical and many more industries. To give an insight, high surface energy material is more reactive and stickier.
Jikan CAG-20 contact angle goniometers measure the surface free energy of solids (solid surface tension) from contact angle measurements. The algorithm used in the software (Jikan Assistant) requires the user to measure the contact angle of at least one test
Only few contact angle goniometers provide the back to front tilt of the camera. This feature enables the user to perfectly see the contact point. It also enables the software (Jikan Assistant) to automatically pick the contact points.
